| Professional Background: | Prof Yan-Leung Cheung Stephen is a Chair Professor of Finance in the Department of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Business, City University of Hong Kong. Research: He has published more than 50 articles in international refereed journals and is ranked the sixth most productive finance researcher in the Asia-Pacific region including researchers from the universities of Australia and New Zealand (Chan K C, C Chen and T L Steiner, 2001, "Research productivity of the finance profession in the Asia-Pacific region," Pacific-Basin Finance Journal 9, 265-280). Consultancy experience: He has extensive consultancy experience in the Hong Kong Financial Sector. He has served as a project coordinator for the Consumer Council to examine the Hong Kong Banking sector, which led to the first phase of interest rate deregulation in Hong Kong in 1994. He was the Chairman of the Core Group on Corporate Governance, Pacific Economic Cooperation Council and was responsible for drafting the guidelines of good corporate governance practice for Asia-Pacific economies. The guidelines were endorsed by the APEC ministers for implementation and were welcome by the APEC leaders in Shanghai in 2001. He has provided consultancy services to the Asian Development Bank, United Nations ESCAP, Securities and Futures Commission, Financial Services Bureau, Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and SG Securities (HK) Ltd. Executive teaching: He designed three master programmes; MSc in Banking and MSc in Financial Engineering are self-financing programmes and MSc in Finance is funded by UGC. The Banking programme was offered exclusively to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's executives for the first two years. The Financial Engineering programme was the first of its kind in Asia. He was responsible for the stock option training material and organized the stock option training programme for the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in 1995. He is an adjunct professor of Peking University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University and advisory professor of Fudan University. Community services: He initiated the recruitment of undergraduate students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University to City University in 1998. He was a founding director of the Hong Kong Securities Institute and the founding chairman of the professional education committee. He serves on several committees of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited. He also serves on the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform, the Economic and Employment Council, the Small and Medium Enterprises Committee, the Statistics Advisory Committee and the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation of the HKSAR Government. | |
