Before joining the Department in 1991, Dr Chin had more than ten years' experience in manufacturing industry, mainly in managerial positions of quality assurance and management, operations management, and product design and development. He is a Chartered Engineer in the UK and a Registered Professional Engineer in Hong Kong. Dr Chin is an active member of a number of professional institutions. He is the Past Chairman (1997-2000) and a Fellow Member of the Hong Kong Society for Quality. Dr Chin is also the Fellow Member of Hong Kong Quality Management Association and Founding Member of the Asian Network for Quality (ANQ). Dr Chin holds senior membership of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (USA), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (USA) and the American Society of Quality, and corporate membership of many other professional institutions. He is now serving as the Country Representative (Hong Kong) member of the Council of the International Chapter of the American Society of Quality, the Disciplinary Committee of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Society for Quality. Dr Chin is a core faculty member in the Department that he is now the Programme Leader of the BEng in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management programme and Deputy Programme Leader of the MSc in Engineering Management programme. His major teaching subjects are quality management, product design and development, and technological and product innovation. Dr Chin maintains intensive collaboration with industries through various consultancy work, training courses and industrial projects in Hong Kong, China and other Asian countries. His current research interests are quality and innovation management strategies for Hong Kong and China, and the use of modern decision making methodologies, artificial intelligence and Internet-based technologies in product development.
